A suspect is remanded for five days over allegations he took bribes to avoid legal action in a ketum possession case, linked to four police personnel

KOTA BHARU: Another suspect has been remanded for five days in connection with a bribery case involving RM12,000.

The man in his 30s was arrested at his home yesterday and brought before the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court today.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid granted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s application for the remand order, which lasts until Monday.

The suspect is alleged to have solicited and accepted the bribe in exchange for not taking legal action against an individual found with ketum leaves in a car.

A source stated the bribe was believed to have been received via bank transfers into the suspect’s personal account.

Preliminary investigations indicate he acted in collusion with four police personnel remanded earlier in the same case.

Kelantan MACC director Azmin Yusoff confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
