A foreign man recently stirred the wrath of Malaysians with a post of him flexing both his Bangladeshi and Malaysian passport.
The post has since attracted criticism from netizens, who called upon the authorities to investigate the man for having dual citizenship, which is illegal under Malaysian law.

In a Threads post, the man shared a selfie he took while holding on to a Malaysian and Bangladeshi passport in his hand.
As for the caption, all he used was the wearing sunglasses and finger heart emoji, with the latter being a common expression of love and affection or to signify that an item was extremely expensive.
‘Investigate him!’
Unsurprisingly, the post triggered plenty of Malaysians, who urged the Home Ministry to probe the man for having dual citizenship.
Some speculated that the man had married a Malaysian woman and that the Malaysian passport belonged to her, not him.
Another said the Malaysian passport was probably fake as its cover could be purchased online for RM5.
Under Article 24 of the Federal Constitution, any Malaysian adult who voluntarily obtains foreign citizenship automatically risks losing their Malaysian citizenship as the country doesn’t recognise dual citizenship.
As for children born abroad to Malaysian parents, they are allowed to hold dual citizenship temporarily, but they must make a formal choice upon turning 21.
To date, over 120 countries globally permit dual citizenship, with prominent examples being the US, Australia, France, and Germany.
