A man and his son were killed after their speeding car rammed into the rear of an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura on Friday, police said.

The accident occurred at around 3.30 am in the Baldev area, when the car, travelling from Agra towards Noida, crashed into a roadways bus from Sultanpur depot moving ahead of it, they said.

Station House Officer Pushpendra Kumar said Parmhans Pandey (58), a resident of Vikas Kunj Colony in Dibiyapur town of Auraiya district, was travelling to Delhi along with his son Pushpendra alias Bittu (27) in a car.

The officer said the impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was badly mangled. Pandey, who was driving the vehicle, and his son died on the spot.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the family members of the deceased have been informed, Kumar said, adding that the bodies would be handed over to them after the autopsy.

Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding and the driver possibly dozing off at the wheel may have led to the accident, the SHO said.

He added that police are investigating all aspects of the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
