M’sian stunned after paying RM10.90 for rice and taugeh meal, sparking viral debate as netizens question the high price of simple diet food.

A Malaysian man has gone viral after revealing how a modest meal of white rice and taugeh (bean sprouts) unexpectedly cost him RM10.90.

“Is it normal for a meal like this to cost RM10.90? It makes me feel like giving up on dieting already,” he wrote in his post.

According to the receipt, the charges were broken down as follows:
White rice (1): RM2.80
White rice (½): RM1.50
Vegetables (one type, one scoop): RM6.60
Service tax (6%): RM0.62

This brought the total to RM10.90, with the taugeh alone priced at RM6.60.

Netizens were similarly shocked in the comments, with many expressing disbelief at the hefty price for such a simple meal.

“That’s crazy, RM6.60 for one scoop and it’s just taugeh!” one user, syemimy, commented.

Meanwhile, aaroonn85 asked: “Serious question: if we take food like this and then they tell us the price and we don’t agree, can we ask to cancel it?”

“So expensive, does the taugeh come with bits of gold or what?” kuromibulatt asked sarcastically.

“The taugeh only costs RM0.60 if you buy it yourself,” cathyjahh wrote.
