Man United agree £50m move for Chelsea star after missing out on Elliot Anderson

Manchester United have agreed a £50m deal to sign midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Michael Carrick's overhaul in the centre of the pitch will continue with Santos set to become one of two Brazil internationals United will buy.

They will complete a £35m move for Ederson from Atalanta while Santos should follow for an initial £48m, plus a further £2m in add-ons.

United turned to the 22-year-old after missing out on two other midfield targets, with Elliot Anderson going from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for £116m and Tottenham buying Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85m.

United have also considered other candidates, including Aurelien Tchouameni and Adam Wharton.

Their need for midfield reinforcements increased when, after Casemiro left Old Trafford, Manuel Ugarte sustained a knee injury at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were able to sell Santos after Real Madrid denied they had any interest in buying Enzo Fernandez, making it likelier the Argentinian will stay at Stamford Bridge.

Santos' sale will give Chelsea a sizeable profit, after buying him for £18m, and mean they have brought in over £110m this summer, following the sales of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Tyrique George to Everton.
