Man United vs Tottenham LIVE: 10-men Spurs secure late draw through Dominic Solanke goal

Manchester United and Tottenham shared the points in an entertaining 1-1 draw at Old Trafford as neither team took the initiative to kick start their seasons.

Spurs were the dominant team in the first half as United looked sluggish, slow and underprepared. It was only Tottenham’s lack of ruthlessness in the final third that kept the match on level terms are the half time break.

The second half saw all the drama as Michael Carrick introduced an inspired Carlos Baleba for his debut and United struck first through a slick combination from Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo with the latter rolling a shot past Antonin Kinsky.

Roberto de Zerbi’s men never lacked belief and continued to attack. They earned their rewards with a stoppage time cross that find Dominic Solanke who headed home the equaliser.

More from Carrick

20:26 , Mike Jones

"I don't think it is lack of confidence, but a game can get away from you very quickly. We found a way right back into the game, and got ourselves in a great position - that is one of the most disappointing things.

"It's not nice, it hurts a lot because I care about this club. But I understand the disappointment, the reality is what it is, we need to get back to winning games."

Reaction from Michael Carrick

20:22 , Mike Jones

"It was a mixed game. We found it tough to start with. For a number of reasons, we were not quite there. You could see it was a challenging time.

"But the lads grew into the game, in the second half I thought we were better in everything. To get the game as we wanted it, in such a good position - we should see it through.

“We have to manage those situations. That's two late goals which have hurt us, and things look very different. That's the reality."

Solanke on Bentancur's red card:

20:18 , Mike Jones

“It all happened so quickly so I haven’t seen it back yet. It shows the fight in the team. Everyone is so hungry to do the right thing and show the right passion.

“We’ve got so much to work on. The mentality and character was great. We’re going to put things right eventually and we’ll be flying sooner rather than later.”

Reaction from Dominic Solanke

20:14 , Mike Jones

The Tottenham goalscorer said: “I wouldn’t say it feels like a win. In the first half, we played so well. Dominated the majority and should have been a couple of goals ahead. In the second half, we go and man down and still managed to get something from the game. It shows the mentality and the character of the team.

“We’ve been a goal down and not reacted in the right way, we wanted to put that right. Goal down, man down, it would have been easy for us to not go for the win.

“I probably should’ve had three goals today. I wanted to make sure I kept getting as many as I can. I put one away so I’m thankful for that.”

Solanke's surprise

20:06 , Mike Jones

Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke has netted four Premier League goals against Manchester United, his joint-most against an opponent (also Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest).

Meanwhile, the City Ground (four) is the only away venue he has scored more often at than Old Trafford (three) in the competition.

Magic Mbeumo

20:02 , Mike Jones

Tottenham are now the team that Bryan Mbeumo has scored the most Premier League goals against, netting seven times in 10 appearances against them (four for Brentford, three for Manchester United).

A bad start for United

19:58 , Mike Jones

Manchester United have won just six points from their opening six games of the Premier League season, their fewest at this stage of a league campaign since 1986-87 (four).

Mbeumo reacts to draw with Spurs

19:54 , Mike Jones

Understandably, Bryan Mbeumo is a disappointed man.

"We took time to get into the game, but we played well in the second half,” he told Sky Sports.

“In the first half, that wasn't us, we had to change. We tried to get at them.

"We know Spurs have good players who can be dangerous. It's a bit disappointing, we need to work on things.

"We need to keep going forward, as we have a lot of games."

No longer bottom

19:50 , Mike Jones

Tottenham are no longer at the bottom of the table. That point has moved them up to 18th so they’re still in the relegation zone.

Roberto de Zerbi’s side still haven’t won in the league this year so things could be worse for Man Utd.

What does the draw mean?

19:44 , Mike Jones

Manchester United remain 12th in the Premier League table after this draw.

Their only win of the season came against Ipswich.

Reaction from Jamie Redknapp

19:38 , Mike Jones

Former Tottenham midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, gave his reaction to the game on Sky Sports.

He said: “There was a lot of good things in this Tottenham performance tonight. They were much better than United in every department but that is just a theme this whole season.

“I look at the United team and look at the squad, I find it hard to get a team that is going to compete week in, week out. They are just not strong enough.”

Damning for Man Utd

19:32 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Tottenham deserved their point.

“More, arguably, but the way United failed to win at home with a lead and a one-man advantage against a winless team was damning.”

Full-time! Man Utd 1-1 Tottenham

19:26 , Mike Jones

90+8 mins: The match kicked into life in the second half and the points are shared.

Tottenham will settle for it after losing Bentancur and going behind but they’ve left goals out there today.

Man Utd were disappointing again but they secure a draw. Still no wins in the league since August.

No clean sheet

19:22 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Manchester United still don't have a clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

“I think everyone else does.”

Man Utd 1-1 Tottenham

19:21 , Mike Jones

90+4 mins: Tottenham have more confidence and think they can win this game.

It would be disastrous for United to lose from here but they’re full of panic.

GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 Tottenham (Dominic Solanke, 90+2'

19:19 , Mike Jones

Michael Carrick is urging his team forward and up the pitch.

They have the advantage of numbers but are being pushed back.

Spurs keep the pressure on and work the ball into the box from the left. Solanke has too much strength for Martinez and guides a header into the bottom corner.

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:17 , Mike Jones

90 mins: Eight minutes of added time to play.

The announcement is met with groans from the Man Utd fans.

That is a high number.

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:15 , Mike Jones

88 mins: Time is ticking away for both teams. Spurs need the goal, United need composure.

Lisandro Martinez is the latest man in the book as he hacks down Maddison.

Free kick to Tottenham.

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:13 , Mike Jones

85 mins: Save!

Baleba releases Mbeumo on the right side of the pitch. The United goalscorer flies into the box and shoots but Kinsky manages to keep out the effort.

That could have clinched it for United.

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:10 , Mike Jones

82 mins: Inside the last 10 minutes now and Tottenham are in dire trouble.

They’re a goal down and Man Utd have an extra man.

Still, they’ll attack and try to rescue this situation. Can they do it?

Stupidity from Bentancur

19:09 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

The absolute stupidity of Bentancur, who will now get a three-match ban.”

Rodrigo Bentancur was dismissed for a headbutt on Luke Shaw (Getty)

RED CARD! Bentancur is dismissed

19:07 , Mike Jones

79 mins: Bad to worse for Spurs.

Rodrigo Bentancur has to depart. Bentancur threw himself into a heavy tackle on Shaw and Shaw pushes him over.

Bentancur then moves his head towards Shaw and connects.

It’s so silly.

Shaw and Van Hecke, who got involved in the aftermath, get shown yellow cards.

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:04 , Mike Jones

77 mins: This is still a test for both teams. United will be more comfortable but they conceding three goals to Brighton the last time they played at Old Trafford and lost.

Oh now...

There’s a scrap on the left side of the pitch and Shaw comes together with Bentancur. Is there a headbutt from the Tottenham midfielder?

Possibly...

A regular reminder

19:02 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

The by now regular reminder that Tottenham wanted to sign Bryan Mbeumo last summer.

“He wanted to go to United. Now Spurs can't score and he has.”

Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham

19:02 , Mike Jones

76 mins: Maddison and Van de Ven have come onto the pitch for Udogie and Gallagher.

That goal is a blow to Tottenham who have been the better team.

Can they reorganise and get themselves an equaliser?

They have 15 minutes to do so.

GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 Tottenham (Bryan Mbeumo, 73')

19:00 , Mike Jones

United strike!

Baleba’s slick play gets them up the pitch and Fernandes holds it up before Shaw takes over.

He slips Cunha into the left side of the box and Cunha finds Mbeumo.

He controls the ball spins to the left and guides a side-footed effort into the far bottom corner!

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:58 , Mike Jones

71 mins: Joshua Zirkzee has been bright since his introduction and has held the ball up well to provide United time to get forward.

Still nothing to separate the two teams.

James Maddison and Micky van de Ven are readying to come on for Spurs.

 (Getty)

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:56 , Mike Jones

69 mins: Gary Neville says he feels like there’s a goal in this game on Sky Sports commentary.

It feels as though Tottenham are creating the better chances but United have threatened more in this half.

Savio gets a chance to score but his effort is deflected out by Mainoo and Spurs don’t create anything from the resultant corner.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:53 , Mike Jones

66 mins: The changes have provided a spark to Manchester United with Carlos Baleba proving his worth already.

De Zerbi reacts by taking off Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Bergvall for Omar Marmoush and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Zirkzee's gone up top

18:51 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Zirkzee has gone up front after the triple change from Carrick and it may be worth noting he came on and Marcus Rashford didn't.

“Carrick has tended to use Rashford on the left this season but some would say he is a better striker than Zirkzee.”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:50 , Mike Jones

63 mins: The corner is sent to the near post and is glanced on by Zirkzee.

Spurs clear the ball as far as Baleba who shoots and fires a terrible effort high and wide.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:48 , Mike Jones

61 mins: Baleba’s first involvement excites the crowd as he receives the ball, controls it, evades a tackle and releases Fernandes down the left wing.

United get up the pitch and Cunha wins a free kick.

Fernandes takes it and chips the ball into the box for Zirkzee. He shoots towards the near post and wins a corner.

A debut for Baleba

18:47 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

A debut for Carlos Baleba, and the last few weeks have really suggested United need the £70m midfielder.

“Or, at the least, they need him to bring dynamism to their slow midfield.”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:46 , Mike Jones

60 mins: Michael Carrick has seen enough and he’s making three changes after Tottenham take a corner.

The set piece is fizzed into the penalty area and Van Hecke wins it at the back post.

He nods the ball across goal where Maguire heads it out for a repeat corner.

The second set piece comes back into the middle but Maguire is there again.

Those changes from Carrick are Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee and Carlos Baleba making his United debut.

Yoro, Tielemans and Amad are replaced.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:43 , Mike Jones

57 mins: Man Utd have the ball in the back of the back of the net!

Cunha is slipped into the right side of the box and tussles with Gray who marshalls the ball out of play.

Cunha thinks he’s kept it alive and feeds it to Tielemans who calmly slots home.

But the flag has been raised and on the replays it’s clear that the ball went out.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:41 , Mike Jones

54 mins: Cunha wins a foul off Gray and offers United the chance to get up the pitch.

Once again, though, they’re too slow in their build up play.

That is until Fernandes tricks his way into the box. He tries to create space to shoot but bu Udogie gets across and boots the ball away.

Tottenham have been the better side

18:39 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Tottenham have been much the better side so far but it does feel pertinent they only have two league goals so far this season.

“With better finishing, they could have had two since half-time.”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:38 , Mike Jones

51 mins: The corner is delivered by Fernandes and is aimed at Maguire. Spurs nod it to Amad instead and his effort is blazed high and wide!

Spurs then transition quickly with Savio weaving into the box. He cuts it back but the flying Spurs men can’t get on the end of the pass and United scramble it away.

Chance!

Savio again gets in behind United’s defence. He sends it across to Solanke who holds off Martinez and fires his effort over the top!

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:35 , Mike Jones

48 mins: Spurs’ defensive shape has been impressive. The visitors have played very well and they realise that United struggle to break teams down.

Luke Shaw powers past Archie Gray and fires a low pass into the middle but Van Hecke is their to poke the ball behind for a corner.

Second half! Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:32 , Mike Jones

Manchester United get the ball rolling again for the second half.

No changes from either manager at the break.

HT Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:28 , Mike Jones

As things stand, a draw would take Tottenham off the bottom of the table and up to 18th.

A win but shoot them out of the relegation zone and they should be confident of getting one.

United would hold on to 12th but they need all three points, plus two goals and none conceded, to jump into the top half of the table.

HT Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:24 , Mike Jones

Some match stats for you now.

Tottenham had 57% possession in the first half and created seven chances with two on target.

Man Utd had just one chance, the Amad Diallo shot.

That translates to an xG of 0.96 for Spurs and a woeful 0.05 for United.

Half-time! Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:16 , Mike Jones

45+1 mins: The whistle goes and the players trudge off the pitch.

Tottenham have been impressive but De Zerbi won’t be happy with the squandered chances.

Carrick won’t be happy about any of it. Boos greet the Man Utd players as they walk off.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:15 , Mike Jones

45 mins: Tottenham’s end product has let them down. They should be winning this match, probably by two goals at least.

United need to get into half-time and just reset. It’s not bee good from them.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:12 , Mike Jones

42 mins: Solanke and Gallagher open up United’s shaky defence and Gallagher can’t get the ball out from under him to get off a shot.

Martinez tries to clear and Solanke fouls him. Free kick to United.

Savio vs Yoro

18:11 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Savio against Yoro is one of the more interesting duels.

“Yoro was probably selected in part because he is quicker than Dalot and there are times when Savio has gone past other United players, rather than the Frenchman.

“But there are also times when Savio's crosses have gone to United players and his lack of end product is an issue.”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:10 , Mike Jones

39 mins: The referee isn’t winning over supporters. He’s doing his best to let the game flow and there’s been heavy tackles put in from both sides but he’s also been inconsistent in giving free kicks.

Spurs have another period of possession now.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:06 , Mike Jones

36 mins: United have started to come back into the game and the fans are reflecting that.

Amad loses the ball to Gallagher on the edge of the Tottenham box and Cunha fouls the Spurs midfielder trying to get it back.

It’s a good tussle between the two teams now.

 (AP)

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:04 , Mike Jones

33 mins: Chance!

Man Utd get the chance to break after Sandro Tonali has a shot blocked.

Mbuemo brings the ball forward and is tracked by Tonali. He releases the ball into the box for Amad who shoots and forces Kinsky into a low save.

Tottenham's problem

18:01 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

The problem for Tottenham now may be that they have started strongly in several league games already this season, failed to score in the opening 30 minutes and then struggled to build on it.

“Will history repeat itself now?”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

18:00 , Mike Jones

30 mins: Better from Man Utd!

They’re started to move and run and press and tackle. They’re getting on the ball in midfield and playing it forward.

They still look lacking in confidence but have started to assert some pressure on Tottenham.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:57 , Mike Jones

27 mins: Bruno Fernandes stands over the dead ball and slips it to Luke Shaw before receiving it back and lofting a cross it into the Tottenham box.

The visitors handle the cross without much effort.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:54 , Mike Jones

24 mins: Manchester United’s fans have seen enough and they let out a huge boo as the ball goes out for a Tottenham throw in.

Matheus Cunha presses high and wins the ball before signalling to the crowd to raise their voices again and back the team.

Bergvall then fouls him and United win a free kick. A chance here perhaps?

Tottenham are sharper, United look sluggish

17:53 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

Tottenham have made the sharper start.

“They look faster and fresher and perhaps De Zerbi's ploy of picking the players he worked with on the training ground in the last three weeks is working. United look sluggish.”

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:51 , Mike Jones

22 mins: De Zerbi can’t believe it!

Tottenham sweep forward and slip Savio into the left side of the box. He pulls the ball back and finds Kudus.

Kudus is open but fires his effort wide of the left-hand post!

The Spurs manager has his head in his hands as another chance slips away.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:50 , Mike Jones

20 mins: Man Utd have been waiting for some space and it’s Mbeumo who gets in behind on the left side.

He fires a pass across to Amad Diallo arriving from the right. He’s under pressure from the centre backs and can’t get a foot to the ball.

Tottenham deal with the danger and regain their controlled possession.

 (AP)

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:47 , Mike Jones

17 mins: United need an extra body in midfield. Spurs look dangerous everytime they get the ball.

United hadn’t played a pass inside Tottenham’s final third yet.

Michael Carrick needs to get some control in this match. It’s been fantastic work from the visitors who just need a goal to convert their dominance.

Bergvall receives the ball and decides to shoot from range but forces his effort wide of the far post!

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:45 , Mike Jones

15 mins: Yoro slides into a challenge and manages to just cut out a pass to a forward thinking Van Hecke.

This opening quarter of an hour has been all Spurs. United have been very poor and so open.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:43 , Mike Jones

12 mins: Man Utd’s midfield is pretty much non-existent. Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo are getting played around with ease by Spurs.

Tottenham are harrying high up the pitch to win back the ball. United are not up to the pace of the game.

 (Reuters)

Lammens under pressure

17:39 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

It might be an idea for Manchester United not to pass back to Senne Lammens or for him not to try and pass out from the back.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:38 , Mike Jones

8 mins: Tottenham are by far the sharper team with Mohammed Kudus dribbling his way past Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo.

He finds Archie Gray who swings in a cross but Harry Maguire leaps and beats Solanke to the ball.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:35 , Mike Jones

6 mins: Tottenham have been the more controlled team so far, especially in possession.

Man United are almost allowing them to have the ball and are inviting them onto the defence so they can quickly counter.

For the hosts, Mbeumo is playing through the middle with Cunha on the left and Amad on the right.

Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:33 , Mike Jones

3 mins: Leny Yoro wins the ball on United’s right and pokes it up to Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo spins and runs into space through the middle of the pitch before being brought down by Lucas Bergvall and winning a free kick.

Chance!

United waste the free kick and play the ball back to Senne Lammens. Lammens tries to give it to Kobbie Mainoo but Bergvall intercepts and finds Dominic Solanke.

Solanke takes the ball into the box and shoots but Lammens makes a save after putting his team in trouble!

Kick off! Man Utd 0-0 Tottenham

17:31 , Mike Jones

Spurs get the ball rolling at Old Trafford. It’s played back to Kinsky who boots it long.

Harry Maguire clears the danger with a headed clearance and Tottenham recover the ball.

Man Utd vs Tottenham

17:26 , Mike Jones

The players make their way out onto the pitch at Old Trafford.

This is a big game for both teams. Whichever one wins will ease the pressure that is building on them, whoever loses will have it ramp up.

Kick off is up next...

De Zerbi rests players

17:23 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

One explanation for the seemingly strange Tottenham team is that Roberto de Zerbi has omitted a group of players who played all four games for their countries in the international break and picked several who did not go away, but who he worked with in the meantime.”

Spurs winning recent clashes

17:18 , Mike Jones

Manchester United have won just one of their last nine encounters with Tottenham (three draws, five defeats), though that was the two-goal success at Old Trafford last season.

The Red Devils last won back-to-back games over Spurs between March and October 2022.

Back on target

17:12 , Mike Jones

Tottenham ended a miserable four-game goal drought in the Premier League by scoring two late strikes against Aston Villa in the last match before the international break.

It was not enough to mount a comeback as they fell to a 3-2 home defeat in what was their third league loss of the season.

 (Reuters)

A slow start

17:06 , Mike Jones

Manchester United are without a win in their last four domestic matches (two draws, two defeats).

That includes a painful 3-2 home defeat to Brighton in the Carabao Cup – one they had led by two goals in the first half – followed by a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Fulham before the international break, courtesy of a deflected 89th-minute equaliser from Matheus Cunha.

A victory today would give them a huge boost in momentum but defeat would increase the pressure on Michael Carrick.

17:00 , Mike Jones

Manchester United fans will bring back a famous banner mocking the trophy drought of Manchester City in the wake of their rivals being found guilty of more than 100 breaches of Premier League rules.

The ticker-style display had been a fixture at Old Trafford since first being hoisted in 2000, with supporters updating it annually.

Carrick expecting 'best version' of Spurs

16:54 , Mike Jones

Michael Carrick isn’t deceived by Tottenham’s position in the Premier League table (20th).

He’s expecting a good team to turn up at Old Trafford and make things tricky for the hosts.

"Yeah, points-wise, I think they've played a lot better than that, at times,” Carrick admitted.

“When you look at the games, they're a very good team with some very good players, obviously. Assembled a squad this summer that’s a little bit different to maybe what they've had.

“But they're a good team just because of the points. I understand the question, but we're not going into it expecting anything less than their best version of what we know what they're capable of, and actually they have shown for a large part, but probably haven't had the results that maybe the performances deserve."

Carrick on Baleba

16:48 , Mike Jones

Carlos Baleba has yet to make his debut for Manchester United but Michael Carrick says he will not rush his introduction into the team.

"He's certainly getting closer, Carlos," Carrick said on Friday.

"It's been great to have him out on the grass and to see him up close really. And [he] played a little bit in a training game that we had last week, so that was good for him to get some minutes. I think the other side of it a little bit, he has missed a lot, and he's missed crucial time in terms of the end of pre-season.

"There's a little bit of patience there for him to get up to speed, and that's up to us to pick that right time for him as well, but he offers us a lot. I've said it before, the midfield that we've got, we're really happy with, and the selections and the options that we have, and he definitely adds to that."

De Zerbi waiting for this match for three weeks

16:42 , Mike Jones

Roberto de Zerbi says he’s been waiting for this match for three weeks and it’s a big game for the club.

“I've been waiting for this game for three weeks, because after the defeat at home against Aston Villa, personally I wanted to play the day after,” De Zerbi said.

“We are Tottenham, and United and Tottenham are still big clubs in the Premier League. We have to deserve to work in this club, playing better and making different results."

De Zerbi on Mateus Fernandes

16:36 , Mike Jones

One of Tottenham’s main players, Mateus Fernandes, was wanted by Manchester United in the summer.

He ended up making a move to Tottenham instead and now must perform to drag the team out of the trouble they find themselves in.

Roberto de Zerbi said: "Fernandes is a great player, maybe one of the best players in our team. He needs time to understand the club, he needs time to come inside well and better in the environment of Tottenham, but I have big confidence.

“He has to react. Life in football is tough, it’s difficult and the most important thing is the reaction to go through the problem.

“He doesn’t start the bad or worse than others but even well, he has to be stronger and he has all my confidence. He has all the confidence of the club but he needs time and we have to give him time."

Michael Carrick reacts to ‘unprecedented’ Manchester City verdict: ‘Thrown up a lot of questions’

16:30 , Flo Clifford

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has said the Manchester City has “thrown up a lot of questions” as he and other Premier League managers spoke for the first time since a verdict was handed down.

City were found guilty of all charges of breaking the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-year period, with an independent commission releasing their findings in a damning verdict last week.

Van de Ven on the bench

16:25 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

For Tottenham, Micky van de Ven is only on the bench as Marcos Senesi starts.

“Mateus Fernandes is another substitute, despite being an £85m signing and one United wanted to buy.”

Surprises for Manchester United

16:20 , Richard Jolly at Old Trafford

A couple of surprises in the Manchester United team with Leny Yoro in, perhaps to play right-back, and Amad Diallo starting.

“Marcus Rashford is only on the bench, presumably meaning Bryan Mbeumo plays centre forward.”

Roberto De Zerbi on Dejan Kulusevski's recovery

16:12 , Mike Jones

Tottenham boss, Roberto de Zerbi, gave an update on the recovery of Dejan Kulusevski.

“He is working well, tomorrow he comes with us, also [Pedro] Porro. I want all players tonight and tomorrow,” he said.

“He is working very well, and I think he is an example for everyone, Deki [Kulusevski], because forget the player, but the example, how he reacts to the injury, how he reacts to being unlucky, the character he showed this time, was an example, a reference for everyone.”

"It's been a long time since we last sat here," Man Utd boss Michael Carrick said to open his press conference on Friday.

"Yeah, it's a little bit mixed really, through the internationals.

"Patrick [Dorgu] came off and it looks like he will be out for probably a number of weeks. Nous [Noussair Mazraoui] came off and took a knock. He's not quite right yet, so we'll see how he is.

"Where else are we at? Carlos [Baleba] is improving, he's trained a lot and is improving. Amad [Diallo] has done a little bit of training, Marcus [Rashford] has done a little bit of training, Kobbie [Mainoo] has done a little bit of training. So it's a little bit mixed really.

"Ben [Sesko] is further away, with the issue he has got. He won't be ready."

Tottenham come into the match bottom of the Premier League table with the aim of ending their winless streak this season.

The two teams clash at Old Trafford eight months on from their previous enocunter in which United secured a 2-0 victory after goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes.

For the first time since the 2008-09 season, Tottenham sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after their first five matches, and they are also one of only three teams (along with Bournemouth and Fulham) still searching for their first top-flight win of the campaign.

With both teams and managers under pressure what kind of match will we see play out at Old Trafford later on?

Welcome!

11:13 , Mike Jones

Good afternoon and welcome to The Independent’s coverage of today’s late Premier League kick off.

It’s a crucial match at Old Trafford as Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur.

Both clubs have underperformed across their first five matches with pressure mounting on both managers.

Michael Carrick’s United have shown promise but have struggled to convert that into points and they will be hoping that the international break has allowed their players to reset ahead of a tricky period in the build up to Christmas.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are bottom of the table without a win since the start of the season. Roberto de Zerbi can propel his men up the table with victory over United but it won’t be an easy task.

We’ll have all the updates, team news and line-ups throughout the afternoon so stick with us as we build up to kick off at 5.30pm.
