Manchester United transfer target Elliot Anderson has been making waves after his standout performance against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Even though United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, there was a bright spot as Anderson found the net with an impressive goal against City, dealing a blow to their title ambitions.

Anderson is at the top of United’s wishlist as they look to reshape their midfield for the 2026 season. However, Manchester City are shaping up to be their main rivals in the chase for his signature.

Having already put in strong showings against City both home and away this season, it appears that his recent display hasn’t gone unnoticed by decision-makers at the Etihad.

Man City may edge Man Utd to Elliot Anderson signing

TeamTalk reports that some within football are already viewing Elliot Anderson’s move to City as a ‘done deal’.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey added: “For several weeks now, from numerous sources, I am told that Anderson to City is a done deal.

“I am told Hugo Viana picked him out last summer as one he wanted.”

The report claims Forest are looking for £90 million for the 23-year-old. Although United are prepared to make significant midfield investments this summer, Anderson appears more likely to be heading across town.

Ineos seem to have a real challenge on their hands if they want to bring him in before the end of the window. The latest word from inside the game suggests Manchester City might have already wrapped up the deal.

Man Utd need to go all-in to land Elliot Anderson

Even after the loss to Newcastle, United remain in a good spot to secure Champions League qualification for the 2026/27 season.

A return to European competition would give United a significant edge in attracting top-tier talent back to Old Trafford.

If Michael Carrick can guide his side to a third-place finish, it would signal to Anderson and other potential signings that United may be closer to title contention than many believe.

Anderson has been outstanding in the Premier League this season and looks an ideal replacement for Casemiro. In this transfer chase, Ineos will need to show real intent and go all out.

Whether it’s through wages or transfer fee, United have to demonstrate they’re still capable of competing directly with City in the market.
