Paul Scholes has taken a dig at Michael Carrick following Manchester United’s disappointing 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

United fell short at St James’ Park despite Newcastle being reduced to 10 men, a result that has increased scrutiny of Carrick’s side after a good run of form.

A few hours after the final whistle, former midfielder Scholes posted a pointed message on social media that quickly drew attention.

The 51-year-old pundit shared a controversial message on his Instagram story after the match, mocking United’s recent performances under Carrick.

He wrote: “Michael has definitely got something special about him… cos Utd have been c— last 4 games… night (kiss emoji).”

The post quickly circulated among supporters online, with some fans surprised to see the United legend publicly criticising the club and a former teammate.

Scholes has often spoken candidly about the Red Devils since retiring, but his latest comment came immediately after a damaging defeat that left many supporters frustrated.

Manchester United beaten by 10-man Newcastle in frustrating defeat

The defeat itself was a painful one for United, who failed to take advantage after Newcastle were reduced to 10 men just before the break.

Newcastle had taken the lead through Anthony Gordon before Casemiro equalised for the visitors. Despite the numerical advantage later in the match, United were unable to control the game.

Instead, Newcastle found a late winner through Will Osula to secure a 2–1 victory at St James’ Park.

The result means Carrick has lost his unbeaten streak since stepping in as the interim head coach.

With pressure beginning to build, United will now look to respond quickly in their next Premier League outing, against Aston Villa.
