Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez says early season criticism never reached him.

It has not been all plain sailing for Martinez since he arrived from Ajax in the summer, with many pundits claiming the centre-back was too short to operate in the Premier League after a couple of tough early showings against Brighton and Brentford.

However, the 24-year-old has recovered well and even won United's Player of the Month award for August.

Speaking to TyC Sports after Argentina's win over Honduras, Martinez addressed the criticism aimed at him. "To be honest, it's a dream come true to be playing at such a big club as Manchester United, especially playing in the Premier League, which I think is one of the best leagues in the world.

"It's nice to catch the rhythm of the Premier League, so I'm very happy. I don't pay attention [to criticism].

"I believe in myself, I trust myself. I always work hard every day. That's what's going to give you results at the end."
