The defender was missing for Saturday's 2-1 win against Brentford.
United manager Erik ten Hag stated before kickoff that Varane would've played if the game had come a few days later.
The Manchester Evening News says club sources have stressed Varane is not injured but merely out with a "minor issue".
Varane has missed three games so far this season due to injury.
