Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes insists he doesn't covet the Portugal captaincy.

Fernandes is tipped to inherit the armband from Cristiano Ronaldo.

But he said today: "I don't do long-term projects (laughs). I don't consider myself a leader, but a person who acts naturally, who acts on paper and based on what I feel at the moment.

"It's my way of being in life, I'm critical and I like to improve others. I like things around me to be the best possible and on the pitch it's the same. I like my teammates to have the confidence to be at their best.

"It's my way of being, no I do it to be a leader. I've been like that since I was a kid, you can think I'm a grumpy or a grumpy, my kids also complain about me at home. We're not all the same and that's a good thing about football, everyone is a leader in their own way.

"What I want most is to be here in 2024, not if I'm a leader or not."
