Manchester United's failure in the Champions League is set to cost the club a lot of money.

The Red Devils are out of the competition and Europe entirely after finishing bottom of their group.

United lost their last game 1-0 against group winners Bayern Munich, while Copenhagen finished second in the group and Galatasaray finished third.

The club have lost 45 million in prize money and now have a 28 million hole in their budget for this term.

If they are unable to get into the Champions League for next season, United will have even more problems.

The club do have significant outstanding debt through the Glazer's leveraged buyout, while they also owe money on transfer fees.
