Newcastle United favourite Steve Watson admits it's tough seeing the club bundled out of Europe.
Defeat at home to AC Milan saw Newcastle finish bottom of their Champions League group and eliminated from Europe.
Watson told BBC Sport: "Bitterly disappointed for everybody involved because of the efforts they have put in under really difficult circumstances.
"You could see at the end the zip on the pass wasn't the same probably because of fatigue. We got down the sides a lot but for some reason we didn't get the connection. We've done all we could, we threw everything at them but just didn't have the quality for that second goal on the night. We worked the ball into unbelievable areas but the final pass was lacking a little bit.
"It's only natural to be disappointed because we are all very passionate and we are all diehard Geordies and we wanted this adventure to continue.
"We are miles ahead of where we thought we would be when Eddie Howe took over. We haven't finished bottom of the group and been obliterated by people. We finished bottom of a group where it's been really fine margins. The lads have given absolutely everything, that's something you can never accuse this Newcastle team of."
