The Denmark forward is already being compared to his slight namesake Erling Haaland at Manchester City.
Per Fabrizio Romano, United have put in a first bid to Italian side Atalanta for his services.
However, they are not coming close to the fee that Atalanta are demanding, as they are seeking at least 60 million.
The player is said to have already agreed terms with United on a long-term contract.
Paris Saint-Germain, however, also retain an interest in securing his services this summer.
