Singapore Man Jailed for Caning Girlfriend Over Cheating Allegations
A Singaporean man was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he violently attacked his girlfriend with a cane during a heated argument over accusations of infidelity.
The 36-year-old security manager had met his 25-year-old girlfriend through a dating app in August 2022. Their relationship quickly progressed, and she moved in with him just two months later. However, tensions arose when she began suspecting him of being unfaithful.
Violent Outburst Over Cheating Accusations
On the morning of October 18, after returning from his night shift, the man was resting in bed when his girlfriend stormed into the room, confronting him about her suspicions. She repeatedly demanded answers about his alleged infidelity and insisted that he delete photos of her from his phone.
As the argument escalated, the man lost his temper. He grabbed a black box containing a rattan cane and began whipping her. Despite her cries of pain and attempts to record the assault on her phone, he continued striking her. The attack only ended when he finally showed her his phone, claiming to have deleted her photos.
Victim Left and Reported the Assault
Following the attack, the victim packed her belongings and left for Malaysia later that afternoon. The next day, she returned to Singapore and lodged a police report.
Authorities noticed visible injuries on her lips, face, arms, and left hand. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and given three days of medical leave, though she was discharged the same day.
Sentencing and Court Proceedings
The man was charged with voluntarily causing hurt and pleaded guilty in court. He received a 10-day jail sentence but requested a one-week delay before serving his time, a request the court granted.
This disturbing case highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the severe consequences that can arise from unchecked anger in relationships.
