Man who spent 28 years walking 31,000 miles around the world finally comes home

  • Karl Bushby, a 57-year-old former paratrooper from Hull, has returned to his home town after completing a 31,000-mile walk around the globe that began 28 years ago in Chile.
  • Crowds gathered to welcome Mr Bushby as he crossed the Humber Bridge alongside "The Beast", the cart he has pushed throughout his 29-country journey.
  • Under his self-imposed rules for the Goliath Expedition, he refused to use any form of transport and could not return home until the entire challenge was complete.
  • Highlights of the journey included walking across the Bering Strait, trekking through the Darién Gap, swimming the Caspian Sea and swimming the English Channel.
  • The adventurer is set to officially conclude his epic expedition on Monday when he reunites with his mother, son and granddaughter in Hull.
