- The incident began when Henderson, waiting for a bus, was attacked by Perry's dog and stabbed the animal in self-defense.
- Perry and three other men then chased Henderson across the street, attacking him with a metal bat and other weapons, with Perry ultimately stabbing Henderson with his own knife.
- Three other suspects, Bruce Lamont Fuller Jr., Isaul Hernandez, and Robert Anthony Garcia, were also arrested and charged in connection with Henderson's death.
- Perry has a history of violence, including a 2024 incident where he ordered his dog to attack men, and had previously received mental health diversion for bipolar disorder stemming from his Army service.
