MIRI – A manager of an event management company in Kuching has claimed that a woman from Vietnam he befriended online cheated him of RM1 million in a part-time job offer that turned out to be a scam.
Sarawak police chief commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the man in his thirties lodged a police report today.
“The manager said in his police report that he got to know the woman from Vietnam via social media in May and was subsequently offered a part-time job to sell products online.
“The manager said the woman had promised him a commission for the online job and he was subsequently coaxed to transfer up to RM1.2 million for investment purposes.”
He claimed that he had transferred the money to seven different bank accounts between May 15 to July 13.
The man said he later received a transfer of RM200,000 from the woman.
However, until now, he had not received any other payments and could not recover the rest of his money.
Azman said the manager went to police after realising he was scammed as the Vietnamese woman severed contact with him and could no longer be reached. – The Vibes, July 26, 2023
