Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that Congress-backed candidates securing majority in 32 out of 47 urban local bodies in Himachal Pradesh reflected the people’s strong faith in the policies, governance model and welfare programmes of the state government.
Congratulating party workers and voters for what he termed an impressive performance in the urban local body elections, Sukhu said the mandate would motivate the government to work with greater dedication and responsibility. He said Congress-supported candidates received overwhelming support across districts, which showed public confidence in the government’s functioning and development-oriented approach.
The Chief Minister said the Congress government remained committed to ensuring that welfare schemes effectively reached the people and added that the public trust would further strengthen the government’s resolve to serve every section of society. He said the Congress ideology was rooted in equality, balanced development and inclusive welfare, and these principles continued to guide the state government’s policies and decisions.
Launching a political attack on the BJP, Sukhu alleged that the party practiced divisive politics based on religion and caste, whereas the Congress focused on social harmony and inclusive growth. He further claimed that the Congress government had fulfilled the promises made during the 2022 Assembly elections and had gone beyond several guarantees in implementing welfare measures.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, the CM said several schemes had been launched for the welfare of women, labourers and marginalised communities. He added that reforms introduced in the education and healthcare sectors were yielding positive results across the state.
Sukhu also underlined the government’s efforts to strengthen the rural economy. He said the state had significantly increased the support price of milk and was also providing support prices for naturally grown maize, wheat, barley, raw turmeric and ginger. Congratulating all winning candidates, the CM called upon them to work collectively towards building a self-reliant, strong and prosperous state.
