
POLICE in Banting are actively searching for the man who opened fire inside a fast-food restaurant here, killing a customer in a late-night shooting that has sparked public concern over violent crime.
Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said investigations are ongoing to identify and locate the suspect, whose identity has yet to be established.
“Initial checks found that the victim had a criminal record. However, we cannot disclose further details at this stage as the case is still under investigation,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.
He added that police are examining the motive for the shooting from multiple angles, including the possibility of gang-related elements.
“We are investigating the motive of the incident from various aspects, whether it is linked to elements of gangsterism and others,” he said.
Earlier, a video clip circulated widely on social media showing a man dressed in black and wearing a helmet rushing into the restaurant before firing several shots.
The incident occurred at about 10.05pm on Sunday. The victim, a local man believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later taken to Banting Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have urged members of the public who may have information related to the shooting to come forward by visiting the nearest police station or contacting the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters operations room at 03-31872222.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - January 6, 2025
