
POLICE are searching for a man suspected of stealing two pieces of women’s underwear from the balcony of an apartment near Jalan Dr Wu Lien Teh in George Town.
Northeast District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, said the incident came to light after a video of the theft went viral on social media at around 11am on Wednesday.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the incident is believed to have occurred at approximately 4.24am on 23 May,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
“A police report was lodged on the same day at 10.14am by the victim’s father, a 64-year-old local man.
“Initial findings revealed that the suspect had stolen two items of underwear belonging to the complainant’s daughter, which had been left to dry on the balcony of their home. The balcony faces the apartment's walkway,” he added.
Police efforts to identify and locate the suspect are ongoing. Authorities are urging members of the public who may have information to come forward.
“Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Major Nabil Fikri Abd Rahman, at 016-4446590.
“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft,” he said.
