POLICE have launched a manhunt for a remand prisoner who escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison, prompting heightened security efforts and a public appeal for information.

Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said authorities received a report on the escape on Thursday and immediately initiated operations to locate and recapture the detainee.

He said search efforts were swiftly intensified in surrounding areas, alongside broader measures to track down the suspect.

“The prisoner was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and black long trousers,” he said in a statement today.

The escapee, identified as Muhammad Hassan, 24, is facing multiple charges, including offences under Section 377C and Section 392 of the Penal Code, as well as immigration-related violations.

Police have warned the public to remain vigilant, noting that the suspect has been linked to sexual offences involving a child.

Members of the public with information on his whereabouts are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Muhendran Chandra at 010-4304383 or Inspector Azamuddin at 016-5661597, or reach out to the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters or any nearest police station.

Authorities also cautioned against the spread of unverified information or speculation that could disrupt ongoing operations or cause unnecessary public alarm. - April 10, 2026
