A FIRE of still unknown origin displaced more than 200 families in a residential area in Tondo, Manila, before dawn Friday.
According to the City of Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department, the fire was first reported at about 1:09 a.m. Firefighters raised the first alarm at 1:18 a.m., the second at 1:24 a.m., the third at 1:31 a.m., and the fourth alarm at 2:00 a.m.
Firefighters said they declared the fire under control at 4:30 a.m.
Manila Police District spokesman Philipp Ines told The Manila Times they have yet to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of its damage, adding that no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, the Manila Department of Social Welfare said it continues to provide aid to the families affected by the fire.
Also, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) has issued a traffic advisory, warning motorists that heavy traffic is expected near the fire scene as they help with the clearing operation.
In a Facebook post, the MTPB said emergency responders were at the fire scene and warned of traffic delays on Road 10, encouraging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
“We encourage everyone to stay alert and plan your travel accordingly,” the MTPB said.
