MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not consider the unannounced rally staged by the members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) along EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City as a "threat," Malacañang said Tuesday.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos has ordered maximum tolerance and decided to cancel his morning engagements to monitor the possible impact of the rally on the public and the Philippine economy.
"In a way, he [Bongbong Marcos] was surprised. He was surprised that because Senator Marcoleta is being charged or is involved in a case, the brethren of the INC, our respected brethren, would already launch such a large rally, Castro said. "But still, the President is listening and respects them. His only request is that we all respect those who are affected, especially those who should not be affected.
Castro said the surprise rally does not just affects Malacañang but the public whose daily travel to work, school, and even emergency vehicles were halted.
She also assured the public that the government is ready in case the INC will decide to extend their rally in EDSA beyond Tuesday.
