Marcos inspects National Academy of Sports facilities

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday inspected the facilities of the National Academy of Sports (NAS) at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac.

Accompanied by Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara, the chief executive toured the academy's academic and sports training facilities and met with student-athletes.

The NAS was established under Republic Act 11470 to provide an integrated academic and athletic program for young Filipino athletes.

During the inspection, Marcos and other officials toured the completed Phase 1 facilities, including the Academic and Administration Building and the Multi-Sports Gymnasium. They likewise reviewed the Phase 2 developments, which DepEd said are 98 percent complete and which include a Gymnastics Hall, a Sports Performance Building, and residential facilities for students and staff.

For School Year 2026–2027, the academy is set to serve 246 student-athletes competing in seven sports: aquatics, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, judo, table tennis and taekwondo.

It will also provide dormitory accommodation, meals and snacks, strength and conditioning support, 24-hour student care, and a monthly personal allowance of P3,000 for the student-athletes.

NAS employs 174 personnel, including teachers, program heads, and coaches.

NAS athletes won 1,029 medals in national and international competitions in 2025. The academy also earned 26 medals — 10 gold, five silver, and 11 bronze — at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa. Kristina Maralit
