MANILA, Philippines — After the intense flood experienced in Las Piñas City over the weekend due to the southwest monsoon, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to revisit the long-delayed spillway project.
During the inspection of the high vacuum self-priming drainage trailer pump placed at the Alido Bridge, Zapote River in Las Piñas City on Monday, Marcos said the government must fast-track the completion of the spillway, a project stalled for more than a decade, to provide a permanent outlet for floodwaters in Metro Manila.
“That plan has been in the works for more than 10 years, but for whatever reason, it wasn't finalized—and now, we need to get it done. So, I have given instructions to Secretary Vince: let’s revisit the plans and see if anything needs to be changed,” he said in Filipino.
