MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reminded Filipinos of the importance of selfless service as the nation observes Maundy Thursday.

“On this Holy Thursday, we are reminded that leadership begins with service. Caring for others and putting their needs before our own,” he said in a message posted across his social media accounts.

The chief executive likewise called on every citizen to practice selfless acts even after the Holy Week.

“May we carry this spirit with us in all that we do,” he said.

Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus Christ’s last supper with his disciples. It is also the day Filipinos practice Visita Iglesia, a Lenten tradition of visiting churches to reflect on the Passion of Christ.
