MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday ordered contractors to prevent any delay in the completion of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project’s NAIA terminal 3 station, Marcos stressed that an alternative mode of transportation is needed to decongest roads.
“Many Filipinos spend too much of their day on the road, and as more vehicles fill our roads, it becomes clear that we cannot address congestion by relying on roadworks alone,” he said.
He urged contractors, engineers, and workers to finish the project “on time” so Filipinos can benefit from the subway system as soon as possible.
“I ask that you carry out this project safely, efficiently, and on time with the quality that generations of Filipinos deserve,” said Marcos.
The MMSP is nearly 60 percent complete.
Once completed, the subway will connect Valenzuela City to Pasay City, reducing travel time from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 40 minutes.
The MMSP is set to be fully operational in 2032.
