MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. debunked allegations that the arrest of former speaker Martin Romualdez—his cousin—was “part of a drama.”
Speaking with reporters after his attendance at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, Marcos questioned the allegations of “special treatment” for his cousin and pointed out that those undergoing legal proceedings did not view their situation as merely theatrics.
“This is political, right? It's not really a comment on what's happening. It's not really a belief that it is, in fact, drama," he said, noting that public criticisms aimed at his administration’s credibility rather than the court proceedings.
Marcos stressed that accusations regarding the government's integrity were attempts to insult leadership and mislead the public.
“So that's what they're saying; that's not a comment on the procedures of court,” he said.
“It’s just another attack. We get them a lot,” he added.
