Marikina installs individual water meters in Tumana

MARIKINA City has begun installing individual water meters directly connected to Manila Water in Tumana, with more units set to be rolled out in the coming days.

Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro said some households have already been fitted with direct meters as part of the city government’s intervention.

“Additional individual meters, directly to Manila Water for Tumana residents,” Teodoro said.

“We have already paid for all the fees so that homes can be connected to direct water meters,” she added.

The mayor said the city shouldered all installation costs to remove financial barriers for residents.

She said the ongoing rollout aims to give households direct billing and service access from Manila Water.

Tumana residents previously relied on a shared or bulk water system through village officials instead of individual connections.

The arrangement led to disputes and service disruptions after unpaid obligations ballooned to over P37 million, resulting in a water service cutoff that affected around 3,000 residents.

The city government stepped in late 2025 by paying an initial P15 million to restore supply and reconnect affected households.
