MARIKINA City Mayor Maan Teodoro on Monday hailed the collaboration between the Philippine Footwear Federation Inc. and Miss Universe Philippines, saying it signals wider recognition for the city’s shoemaking industry.
Speaking during the city’s flag ceremony, Teodoro said the development was a source of pride not only for Marikina but also for the country.
“We congratulate the Philippine Footwear Federation Incorporated. They are now one of the official footwear partners of Miss Universe Philippines,” Teodoro said.
“That means the skill of Marikina, especially in shoemaking, is truly reaching the world stage,” she said.
In a February post on its Facebook page, the federation said its officers, led by President Nick Dela Paz, met with Miss Universe Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Jonas Gaffud and Marketing Director Mario Garcia for what the group described as an “exciting collaboration opportunity.”
The federation said the meeting opens doors for Marikina shoemakers to showcase Filipino craftsmanship on a national and global platform.
Teodoro said the development highlighted the strength of Marikina’s shoemaking industry and showed that locally made products from the city could compete on a high-visibility platform.
“It is something to be proud of as a Marikeño, not only as a city, but as a Filipino,” Teodoro said.
Miss Universe Philippines has identified footwear partners in past editions, including Jojo Bragais Shoes as its official footwear partner for 2025.
