SANDAKAN: Sandakan Marine Police (PPM) seized 87,200 sticks of smuggled cigarettes worth RM174,700 during an operation at Kampung Sinar Baru Batu 12 on Sunday morning.
The team, led by ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim, tailed and stopped a vehicle suspected of transporting contraband, but its driver managed to escape. The vehicle was also confiscated.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. Authorities urged the public to continue providing information to help combat smuggling activities.
