RM114,000 contraband fags seized in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Marine police seized contraband cigarettes worth RM114,000 in a raid on a house at Kampung Silam, here, Saturday.

Sabah Marine Police (Region 4) Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the 12am operation codenamed “Operasi Taring Landai Khas” was conducted by Unit Gempur Marin following intelligence information.

The house was suspected to be used as a storage for untaxed cigarettes before they were marketed.

“A total of 95,000 cigarettes of various brands were seized,” he said, adding the case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, police detained four foreigners in Kampung Desa Bajau on Friday for possessing and taking drugs.

District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division stopped a Perodua Kancil that was boarded by four men in suspicious manner at 12.15pm.

Upon inspection, the team discovered a translucent plastic packet containing substances believed to be syabu weighing 0.14gm.

“Urine tests conducted on all four suspects found that all of them positive for drugs. The suspects also did not have valid identification documents,” said Dzulbaharin.

The case will be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
