A 66-year-old married man in China dies after having sex with his lover in a hotel room

According to a death certificate issued by a local hospital, Zhou died of a heart attack, or precisely, myocardial infarction. Zhou’s family not only took legal action against Zhuang, but they also sued the hotel in Pingnan county, Guangxi Zhuang region, southern China.

The incident took place on July 24, 2024, and Zhou’s family sued both Zhuang and the hotel for not fulfilling their obligation to save Zhuang.

Zhou and Zhuang had known each other back in the 80s, when they worked together in a factory. They met each other again in 2023 before the affair began. According to Zhuang, they had sex before falling asleep, and she found that Zhou was not breathing after she woke up. Thinking that the 66-year-old man had died, Zhuang panicked, and she didn’t know what to do.

Due to her hypertension, she then left the hotel and returned home to take some medication to ease her blood pressure, before going back to the hotel.

When she returned to the hotel and could not open the room where she had been with Zhou, she asked a hotel worker to help her open the door. On entering the room, they found Zhou did not respond to their shouting. The hotel worker called an ambulance and the police.

The police then found out that Zhou also had hypertension, and he suffered from a stroke.

The man’s family sues the lover and the hotel for over ~RM324,000

Zhou’s family, on the other hand, sought CNY550,000 (~RM323,133.00), to which the court added CNY70,000 (~RM41,126.00) for funeral costs, making a total of CNY620,000 (~RM324,259.00), before making its final ruling.

The court then set that Zhuang should only bear secondary liability because she was not aware of Zhou’s previous illnesses, and that Zhou’s death was caused by his pre-existing condition, so he should bear the main responsibility.

The court also pointed out that Zhuang returned to the hotel room an hour later, which was the best window period to save Zhou, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

The court decided that Zhuang should pay Zhou’s family 10 per cent of the earlier CNY620,000, which is CNY62,000 (~RM36,425).
