Marriott International has announced plans to introduce Moxy Hotels to Melaka following the signing of an agreement with WB Hotel Properties Sdn. Bhd. by WEBEST Group. The new property, Moxy Melaka, is expected to open in early 2027 through the strategic conversion of The Explorer Hotel.
Located in Bandar Hilir within the UNESCO-listed Melaka Historic City, the hotel is planned to feature 153 guestrooms in a prime city-centre location opposite Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall and adjacent to Mahkota Parade. Guests will also be within close proximity to some of Melaka’s best-known attractions, including Jonker Street Night Market, A Famosa, St. Paul’s Hill, Dutch Square, and the Melaka River corridor.

The signing reflects Marriott International’s continued expansion of its lifestyle portfolio in Malaysia, particularly as demand grows for experience-led hospitality among younger and modern travellers. Known for its playful, social, and design-forward approach, Moxy Hotels combines vibrant communal spaces with smartly designed guestrooms aimed at delivering convenience, personality, and affordability.
According to Marriott International Vice President of Hotel Development for Asia Pacific excluding China, Andree Susilo, the project highlights the company’s focus on urban leisure destinations with strong tourism appeal and rising travel demand.
WEBEST Group Director Lydia Lim said the collaboration aims to introduce a fresh hospitality concept that complements Melaka’s evolving tourism landscape while appealing to both domestic and international visitors.
Once completed, Moxy Melaka is expected to add a new lifestyle-driven accommodation option to one of Malaysia’s most visited heritage destinations.
