Martin Lewis explains £1 trick to help first-time buyers looking for mortgage deal

Martin Lewis has urged anyone aged 18 to 40 to follow a key tip when seeking a mortgage deal as a first-time buyer.

Appearing on his ITV show on Tuesday (20 October), the Money Saving Expert founder encouraged eligible individuals hoping to step onto the property ladder to deposit just £1 into a Lifetime ISA.

These accounts help people save for a first home or retirement. Account holders can deposit up to £4,000 each year until they turn 50, but must make their initial payment before reaching 40.

The government adds a 25 per cent bonus, capped at £1,000 per year.
