SANDAKAN: Sabah Government Backbenchers Club (Sabah BBC) chairman Datuk Masiung Banah has proposed setting up a drug disposal facility in Sabah to reduce the cost of transporting seized narcotics to Peninsular Malaysia.
He said large quantities of drugs and other prohibited substances seized by enforcement agencies each year justified having a disposal facility in the state.
Masiung said the facility could reduce logistical costs, minimise security risks during transportation and allow seized drugs to be disposed of promptly after obtaining a court order.
He said the BBC was prepared to work with the State Government to identify a suitable site if the Home Ministry agreed to establish the facility in Sabah.
Masiung was speaking to reporters after officiating the Telupid/Tongod District Education Office Excellent Service Awards ceremony in Sandakan, Saturday.
