Ongoing police investigations into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) have uncovered widespread psychological manipulation within the organization, aimed at fostering unquestioning loyalty to its top leaders. These tactics include threats, coercion, and the offer of women as rewards to loyal members.
Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated that GISBH enforces absolute obedience through the promotion of the Aurad Muhammadiah doctrine. Members are subjected to a steady stream of pamphlets and other reading materials designed to inculcate devotion and compliance. Those who resist or refuse to follow directives are threatened.
Razarudin explained that many followers have come forward claiming they faced threats when they expressed a desire to leave the group. This systematic control has allowed compliant members to rise through the ranks, where they are given elevated positions and sometimes even wives as a form of reward for their loyalty. During the investigation, police discovered that some GISBH leaders have multiple wives, further highlighting the manipulation within the group.
The investigation is still ongoing, with police needing to gather more information about the backgrounds of the roughly 10,000 individuals affiliated with GISBH. This number includes all members, including children, and was determined based on documents seized during nationwide raids. The Inspector-General emphasized that the police are still working to establish the legality of the group’s membership registrations.
The police have not ruled out the possibility of charging GISBH’s top management under the Security Offenses Special Measures Act 2012 (SOSMA). Razarudin stressed that their investigation is focusing on potential organized criminal activities within the group, and they will determine whether it is necessary to use SOSMA to detain certain individuals.
In addition to the issues of indoctrination and control, GISBH’s financial practices have also come under scrutiny. According to Razarudin, the group has not paid taxes since its inception. This matter has been referred to the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) for further investigation and verification.
The police chief also raised concerns about the extreme fanaticism of GISBH’s followers, stating that they appear to deify their leaders, deviating from true Islamic teachings. The Aurad Muhammadiah doctrine promoted by the group has facilitated their business operations but, at the same time, fosters dangerous levels of devotion and loyalty. This has prompted authorities to view the group as a potential threat to national security, particularly regarding the integrity of Islamic teachings in the country.
In response to these allegations, the police launched "Op Global" on September 11, targeting 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan associated with GISBH. These raids were conducted over concerns of child and religious exploitation within the organization. The operation led to the rescue of 572 individuals, including children, who were victims of abuse and neglect. Over 300 individuals, including members of GISBH's top management, were arrested during the raids.
The investigation has revealed deeply rooted issues within GISBH, with its methods resembling indoctrination and exploitation, raising serious concerns about its influence on vulnerable members of society. As authorities continue their probe, the full extent of the group's activities and its potential impact on national security remains to be seen.
