SIMPANG RENGGAM: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Puteri Wangsa, Dr Maszlee Malik, has called on more Johoreans, especially young voters, to come out and fulfil their responsibility in the state election.
Maszlee, who cast his ballot at SJK (C) Tuan Poon in Machap this morning, said the voting process was running smoothly and expressed hope that voter turnout would be encouraging.
He said he had fulfilled his responsibility as a voter in the Machap state constituency after having his finger inked, before heading to Puteri Wangsa to monitor the situation there.
“The process is smooth. Earlier, I was informed that at around 8am there were about 60 voters in the channel for those who are neither young nor old, like me.
“We hope more people will come out to vote,” he told reporters after casting his ballot.
Asked about his mood on polling day, Maszlee said he remained optimistic and always believed in hope.
“I pray that in Machap, (PH candidate) Nur Hafiz will be able to spring a surprise. I pray for the best for all candidates, whether in Machap or elsewhere, and hope they will achieve success,” he said.
Nur Hafiz is contesting the Machap state seat in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who earlier cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Renggam.
Meanwhile, Maszlee is contesting the Puteri Wangsa state seat in a five-cornered contest.
Maszlee also urged Johoreans, particularly young voters, to exercise their democratic right and make the best choice for the state and the country.
“Across Johor, we hope voters will come out in large numbers, especially young people, and make the best choice for the state and the country,” he said.
