BATU PAHAT – Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has maintained that there is no reason for him to take part in the Johor state election dialogue with Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Maszlee Malik, as they are contesting different state seats.

He pointed out that Maszlee is contesting the Puteri Wangsa state seat, while he is defending the Machap seat.

"I am not contesting against him in Simpang Renggam. He is the one who left Simpang Renggam."

"So if he wants to debate or hold a dialogue, he should find someone there. What does that have to do with my constituency in Machap or Simpang Renggam?" he said.

He said this when met after the Kasi On programme with the Johor Menteri Besar at Homestay Tok Marwan, Semerah, here on Monday.

On Sunday, Onn Hafiz confirmed that he would not attend the Johor state election dialogue jointly organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro Awani and Sinar Harian, citing prior commitments.

However, the organisers said the dialogue would proceed as scheduled tonight to provide the public with a platform to gain clarification on current issues ahead of the Johor state election.

In a related development, Onn Hafiz also took a swipe at the former Simpang Renggam MP, claiming that voters in the constituency were still waiting for Maszlee to fulfil promises he had made.

"The people of Simpang Renggam are still waiting for him to deliver his promises. He promised to abolish toll charges, but until today that promise has not been fulfilled," he said.

Maszlee is facing a five-cornered contest for the Puteri Wangsa state seat in the 16th Johor state election.

Meanwhile, the Machap state seat will see a straight fight between incumbent Onn Hafiz and PH candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan.
