Kuala Muda police cripple the ‘Mat Tok Gang’ following the arrest of four men linked to nine house break-in cases in Sungai Petani.
SUNGAI PETANI: The ‘Mat Tok Gang’, which has been active in house break-ins in the Kuala Muda district since April, has been busted with the arrest of four men, including its leader.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the suspects, aged between 28 and 40, were arrested during Ops Pintu/Ops Lejang on Sept 9 at several locations in the district, solving nine house break-in cases in Taman Delima and Taman Arked.
“The Mat Tok Gang is led by a 31-year-old man who operates with three accomplices, while two other suspects, known as Nizam and Jat Chai, are still at large,” he said at a press conference at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters here today.
He said the gang targeted unoccupied houses and stole valuables, including high-value vehicles such as motorcycles, while items seized included a drone, a motorcycle, a camera, a washing machine and three watches worth an estimated RM30,000.
Checks found that all four suspects had previous records for drug and criminal offences and tested positive for drugs, he said.
Hanyan said the suspects were being investigated under Sections 457 and 379A of the Penal Code for suspected involvement in house break-ins and motorcycle theft and had been remanded until Sunday.
“Further investigations are ongoing, including efforts to trace items they may have sold to other individuals,” he said, urging victims who have yet to come forward to assist in the investigation.
