SANDAKAN: The construction of the new jetty at the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Eastern Fleet Command (Mawilla 2) headquarters here has reached 75 per cent completion since works began in 2022.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said his ministry would ensure full cooperation to complete the RM112.9 million project, which is scheduled for completion by 6 May next year.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also expressed his hope for the jetty to be completed properly during his recent visit to Mawilla 2.

The minister noted that while progress has been steady, challenges such as soil settlement and narrow access roads required technical expertise, which the contractor has already engaged to address.

Once completed, the jetty will be able to accommodate 20 vessels at a time, enhancing the Navy’s operational capacity in monitoring the South China Sea, Sulu Sea, and Sulawesi Sea.
