Chet Holmgren’s Western Conference Finals left plenty of questions. The Thunder center averaged just 10.7 points per match against San Antonio, well below what was expected in a rivalry series.
On the other side, Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs to the NBA Finals after a seven-game battle with the defending champions. His control of the matchup made Holmgren’s struggles feel louder.
That contrast caught the eye of Max Kellerman, the veteran TV presenter now hosting Game Over with Rich Paul, who drew a bold historical parallel.
Max Kellerman sees LeBron-Curry parallels in Wembanyama-Chet battle

Kellerman pointed to a famous 2016 Finals sequence while discussing the matchup between Holmgren and Wembanyama.
“What Wemby did to Chet in a way, is what LeBron did to Steph in that game. In Game 6, when he blocked his shot and screamed at him, Steph kind of had his head hung, there was something in that moment,” he said (via Legion Hoops).
The comparison fits more in feeling than numbers.
Curry still averaged 22.6 points in those Finals, while Holmgren’s 10.7 told a very different story.
Adding to that, LeBron’s dominance over Curry appeared in flashes, especially through that Game 6 block and stare-down, while Wembanyama’s advantage over Holmgren felt more consistent across the series.
That is why Kellerman’s point needs balance. He was not equating Holmgren and Curry as players, but highlighting moments where one star stamped authority on a matchup.
