Max Verstappen has praised Lionel Messi in a recent Red Bull Racing Instagram video, with the Formula 1 champion reflecting on the Argentine’s unique brilliance.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers ever, Messi continues to draw admiration across sports. Verstappen, a multiple-time F1 world champion himself, is the latest example of it.

The Dutchman has won four consecutive F1 world championships, underlining his dominance. And his comments on the Inter Miami star highlight how generational talents recognise excellence beyond their own disciplines.

Speaking in a Red Bull Racing Instagram feature, Verstappen detailed why Messi’s qualities separate him from other players.

The four-time F1 champion said: “He [Messi] can read the game. You see a lot of people that, they need to run, they need to get in to score a goal. He can score from wherever, whenever. And you think you can defend him, but you cannot, you cannot stop him. So, he will score when you seize the opportunity.”

Verstappen pointed to a specific moment against the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup, when Messi delivered a precise pass through a narrow gap to Nahuel Molina, leading to Argentina’s opener in a 2-2 draw.

According to him, that assist proves how it is impossible to stop the Argentine No.10.

“Like the ball he played against Holland at the last World Cup, it’s just… you cannot defend that,” he concluded.

Messi’s current performances suggest he remains ready for another World Cup, despite recent doubts about his involvement.

Argentina endured a difficult outing against Mauritania, but Messi responded by scoring and completing 90 minutes in a win over Zambia.

Back with Inter Miami, he also found the net in a 2-2 draw against Austin, reinforcing that his form remains strong heading into football’s biggest tournament.
