SHAH ALAM - Maxim Malaysia has enhanced its in-app safety features with an upgraded SOS system aimed at providing faster emergency assistance for both passengers and drivers during critical situations.
The improved system allows users to quickly connect with emergency services, trusted contacts, or nearby partner drivers. It features enhanced emergency contact notifications, GPS location sharing, and a dedicated alert function designed to accelerate on-road assistance.
Under the upgraded system, both passengers and drivers can access the same SOS function during emergencies, choosing between contacting emergency services at 999 or immediately notifying up to three pre-added emergency contacts.
When users select the emergency contact option, their chosen contacts will receive an SMS containing their precise GPS location and a link to a dynamic route map. The notification system is designed to remain functional even when internet connectivity is unstable.
Maxim Malaysia Director Mohd Hazwan Musli said the upgraded system provides users with greater flexibility when seeking help.
"Safety remains an important part of every trip, and the new improvements make the process of getting help more flexible and responsive," he said. "Instead of a single standard alert, users gain the ability to decide who should be informed of the issue first, loved ones, professional rescuers or nearby fellow drivers. Each option is accessible within seconds, and the time saved in making that choice can prove critical."
For partner drivers, Maxim Malaysia has introduced an additional Driver Alert System that operates separately within the SOS function. The feature is intended for situations requiring immediate physical assistance on the road, including vehicle breakdowns, accidents, safety threats, or sudden medical emergencies.
Once activated, the system sends a notification containing the type of incident and location coordinates to available partner drivers within a radius of up to three kilometres. The nearest driver can then provide assistance before state emergency services arrive.
Beyond the SOS improvements, the platform continues to provide additional safety features, including secure in-app chat functions designed to reduce fraud risks, internal trip monitoring systems that track important journey information, and GPS tracking for every order. Passengers can also use the Trip Sharing feature to send a real-time trip link to family members or friends once they board a vehicle.
Maxim Malaysia stated that all information transmitted through these features is encrypted according to modern security standards and stored only for a limited period. Access is restricted to authorised safety team members and emergency operators, and is only provided when necessary, including upon requests from law enforcement authorities.
The company encouraged users to prepare their emergency contacts in advance through the “Safety” section within the application to ensure the feature can be activated immediately when needed.
