Maybank has unveiled an enhanced Maybank American Express Gold Charge Card in a new rose gold design, with more rewards for everyday lifestyle spending.
We were at Membership Rewards Night 2026 at the Grand Ballroom, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur earlier today to get a closer look at the new card and see how Maybank is bringing its latest benefits to life for cardmembers.
The event brought together Maybank and American Express representatives, including Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Group Chief Executive Officer of Community Financial Services at Maybank, and Usman Arif, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Network Services, Asia Pacific at American Express. Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, was also there as the Denza D9 featured in the evening’s headline bidding session.
More Cashback On The Things You Enjoy
One of the biggest changes is the new 10% cashback on selected lifestyle spending, capped at RM30 per month.
Eligible spending includes selected streaming subscriptions such as Netflix, Spotify, Viu, Disney+, YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime, iQIYI and WeTV, as well as movie ticket purchases from TGV and GSC cinemas. Grab transactions are also eligible, although Grab e-wallet reloads are excluded.
The cashback applies to eligible spending both locally and overseas, giving you another way to get some value back from entertainment and lifestyle spending.
You Can Earn Up To 3x Membership Rewards Points
The enhanced Maybank American Express Gold Card also gives you more Membership Rewards points, with the rate depending on where and how you spend.
You’ll earn 2x Membership Rewards points for every RM1 spent locally, while overseas spending earns 3x points per RM1.
Some categories earn 1x points instead, including utilities, education, insurance and installment-plan transactions. Certain transactions, such as payments to government bodies, JomPay and FPX transactions, do not earn Membership Rewards points.
Another feature is that Membership Rewards points do not expire, so you don’t have to worry about using them before a fixed expiry date.
We Saw Membership Rewards Points Go Head-To-Head
Instead of bidding with cash, invited cardmembers used their Membership Rewards points to compete for lifestyle and luxury items.
One of the prizes was a Breitling watch valued at RM40,000, which was bid for using points equivalent to RM20,000.
The biggest prize of the night was a BYD Denza D9 Premium (AWD), with a starting bid of 1 million Membership Rewards points.
Maybank explained during the event that 500 points are equivalent to RM1, making the starting bid equivalent to RM2,000.
Taufik said this was the first time Maybank cardmembers could use their Membership Rewards points to bid for a Denza D9.
Watching the bidding unfold gave us a more tangible sense of what those points can be worth beyond simply accumulating them in your account.
Dining Privileges Go Up To 40% Off
Maybank American Express Gold Card also comes with dining privileges, with cardmembers able to get up to 40% off the total bill at participating hotels and resorts nationwide.
The participating properties listed by Maybank include The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, Shangri-La Méridien hotels,Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa and Penang Marriott Resort & Spa, among others.
New principal card applicants can also receive RM200 in welcome rewards, made up of RM100 Grab Credits and RM100 Movie Credits, when they spend at least RM500 within 30 days from the card issuance date.
The card has an annual fee of RM238, but this is waived for the first three years.
The New Card Takes Centre Stage

The main event of the evening was the official unveiling of the enhanced Maybank American Express Gold Card, where we got our first look at the new rose gold design.
Malaysian actors Shafiq Kyle and Mimi Lana joined Maybank and American Express representatives as invited guests for the launch.
During his speech, Taufik said Maybank and American Express have shared a partnership for 25 years, with the relationship growing from card issuing into consumer and commercial payments, merchant acquiring, and experiences and privileges for cardmembers.
He said the Maybank American Express Gold Card needs to evolve alongside the changing lifestyles of its cardmembers while keeping the recognition and service associated with the Maybank American Express Gold Card.
An Evening Built Around The Cardmember Experience
The launch was part of Membership Rewards Night 2026, where cardmembers could enjoy live band performances, a Rizman Ruzaini fashion show, lucky draws and dining throughout the evening.
We also saw cardmembers take photos with the Denza D9 and register for a test drive, with an exclusive gift available to those who took part.
The enhanced Maybank American Express Gold Card is now positioned around spending categories such as entertainment, dining and travel, while its Membership Rewards points can be saved without an expiry date.
As always, the cashback and points benefits come with specific eligible spending categories and exclusions, so check the applicable terms before applying or spending.
