Kylian Mbappé can become all time World Cup top scorer but the France star said that winning another title is far more important.
Mbappé has scored 12 goals at the global tournament and is four shy of the record 16 scored by German Miroslav Klose across four tournaments 2002-2014.
The Real Madrid forward won the title with France in 2018 and was runner-up in 2022, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Argentina France lost on penalties.
"Of course I want to continue to make history. But most of all I wish to return to France with the trophy," Mbappé told broadcasters M6.
"If it (the scoring record) means that we win I would happily be the first to celebrate on the Champs-Élysées."
France start the World Cup on Tuesday against Senegal, with Iraq and Norway their other opponents in the group stage.
Les Bleus are among the top favourites with many stars which apart from Mbappé include his attacking partners Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise.
Mbappé said the title would also be the best farewell for coach Didier Deschamps, who is stepping down after 14 years.
"The best way to pay tribute to him is to win the World Cup because he loves to win," Mbappé said Deschamps, who also won the World Cup as a player in 1998.
He added light-heartedly: "I hope he doesn't participate again with another team. I will pressure him. I have seen that there are talks about Italy (who are without a coach). That would be terrible."
