SHAH ALAM, July 3 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation has contributed RM110,000 to support young athletes in motorsports, fencing, golf, and badminton, as well as the Selangor Hockey Association.

Its chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the funds are intended to ease the burden on these young athletes, all of whom are Selangor-born, in managing their training and to support the development of their talents to a higher level.

“These are Selangor’s children, and we must help them so that their talents are not left to waste. The state government and MBI will continue to support the growth of promising young athletes.

“With this support, they can further advance their athletic careers and, one day, contribute medals to the nation,” he told the press after the MBI Foundation contribution handover programme to 14 young athletes and the Selangor Hockey Association today.

Azri added that applications for athlete funding are still open this year and will be processed in stages.

“This is not the first round of contributions; several have been made throughout the year. Among the beneficiaries are the Selangor Rugby team and the Selangor Red Giants e-sports squad, which will be heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this month to represent the country,” he said.

The MBI Foundation has also supported the development of young footballer Qaseh Rania Khairul Najib since 2020, including sponsoring RM15,000 for her participation in a training programme with Croatian top-tier club NK Osijek in 2022.

Qaseh, the Best Young Player of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) Women’s Super League, is set to sign a three-year contract with European football powerhouse VFL Wolfsburg this August.
