SABAK BERNAM, July 10 — Nearly RM600,000 in disaster relief funds has been disbursed so far this year, with half of the amount allocated to victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the assistance was also extended to victims of other disasters, including storms, floods, and landslides.

“Each year, MBI allocates RM1 million to help ease the burden of disaster victims. As of early July, close to RM600,000 has already been distributed.

“The largest portion was for Putra Heights, involving approximately RM300,000,” he said.

Azri was speaking to the press today after handing over contributions to 22 residents and traders in Parit 4, Sungai Burong, who were affected by a severe storm in March.

The state government subsidiary contributed RM10,000 for essential supplies at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) for the April 1 incident at Putra Heights, and RM500 in cash to each of the 265 affected school students.

In addition, 37 affected university students received Kita Selangor book vouchers worth RM200 each.
