The Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh will install waste-to-art sculptures across parks and public spaces in the city as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2025–26 guidelines under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0.
To implement the project, the civic body has invited rate quotations from interested parties. The sculptures will be created using recycled and discarded materials, including scrap metal, plastic waste and other reusable items available in MC stores.
According to officials, the artworks will promote key themes such as cleanliness, waste segregation, plastic reduction, recycling and environmental awareness. Informative IEC (Information, Education and Communication) messages, slogans and branding elements will be prominently displayed alongside each installation to encourage citizen participation and behavioural changes.
The sculptures will be placed at strategic locations, including parks and other public areas, with the aim of inspiring residents to creatively reuse waste materials and convert them into meaningful products.
The initiative has been launched in view of the weightage assigned to waste management in the Swachh Survekshan rankings by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Swachh Survekshan promotes the principles of the 4Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover — to educate citizens about sustainable waste management practices and responsible consumption.
An MC official said the waste-to-art installations would serve not only as aesthetic attractions but also as educational tools, helping visitors understand the importance of sustainable waste management and resource conservation.
“The sculptures will showcase how discarded materials can be transformed into valuable assets, while spreading awareness about environmental responsibility and encouraging community participation,” the official added.
